Re: "Teachers rebuff random tests for drugs in schools"

Sir,

Jeffrey Archer's Prison Diaries have starkly revealed the effects of so-called "voluntary" drugs tests in prisons. The tests are compulsory for any prisoner who wishes to apply for parole. Unfortunately they pick up any use of marijuana in the past 28 days even though heroin washes out of the system in just 24 hours. The result is predictable. People who enter prison as cannabis users switch to heroin in order to get out. What fool came up with the idea of extending this catastrophe to our schools?

Yours truly,
